U.S. Congress Bans States from Passing Laws Requiring GMO Labelling

In July 2015, U.S. Congress passed a bill which prevents states from requiring package labels to indicate the presence of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). While evidence thus far suggests that GMOs are safe, some argue that it is a consumer's right to know whether a product contains GMOs or not. On the other hand, this bill may save consumers money, as producers won't have to adopt myriad different production procedures to comply with different state labelling laws. 

Ugly Fruit in Ontario No Frills Locations

In March 2015, Loblaw Companies Ltd. launched a pilot initiative to sell abnormal produce for a cheaper price, in an effort to reduce food waste. Ugly fruit is now available in some Ontario No Frills locations.
