About Pullback
Pullback is a podcast that digs into the everyday ethics behind goods and services, consumer movements, eco-labels, and ethical lifestyles.
We started Pullback because we were struggling to make ethical consumption choices. As we try -- and frequently fail -- to be good people, we bring listeners information on consumer movements, product labels and ethical lifestyles. Each episode we challenge ourselves to try something new in ethical consumption so we can bring what we learn back to our listeners.

About the Hosts
Pullback is co-produced and co-hosted by Kristen Pue and Kyla Hewson. The show is edited by Kyla, with show notes and heavy research done by Kristen.
Kristen Pue – Co-Producer, Co-Host, Lead Researcher
Kristen Pue is a postdoctoral fellow studying social policy at the University of Chicago. She grew up in refinery row, Alberta, and moved out to Toronto for graduate school—achieving the rare feat of living in both places that Canadians hate the most. Kristen has a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, where her focus areas were social policy, nonprofits, and political economy. During her studies, Kristen became passionate about the ethical problems in global supply chains—and the advocacy campaigns, consumer movements, and ethical labels created to address them. So, she teamed up with Kyla to start a podcast about it!
Kyla Hewson – Co-Producer, Co-Host, Audio Editor
Kyla Hewson is an audio wizard living in “the-rent-is-too-damn-high” Vancouver. Kyla started this podcast with Kristen upon returning to Canada, after living and working abroad. Travelling pushed her to think more about how the world connects and has driven her to learn how systems of injustice can be changed for the better. Pullback is a project that holds her accountable as she explores how to be a better person.
What Kyla and Kristen Love about Pullback
“Pullback is a delight to work on. The feedback we get from our listeners is so positive, and we’re hearing from them about all the same challenges we’ve been experiencing on our own. Knowing so many other people are also struggling to make good decisions makes us feel less lonely in the frustrating world of ethical consumption. It’s fantastic to be able to connect to others in this way.”
-Kyla Hewson (Co-Host and Audio Editor).
“We have a lot of fun with the podcast—I know that sounds a bit odd given how dark the subject matter can sometimes be. But it has been very energizing to get to go out and try all kinds of new things and then bring those experiences to the listener whether they went well or not. Especially when they don’t go well... because that’s a more interesting story, frankly.”
-Kristen Pue (Co-Host and Researcher).
